Dr Wallace Wong of the University of Melbourne and Prof Dwight Seferos of the University of Toronto organised an online workshop on advanced materials to initiate collaborative research projects between the two universities on 8 and 9 December 2020. Dr Wong and Prof Seferos received funding ($30,000) from the chancelleries of the universities through the University of Toronto – University of Melbourne: Joint Research Program for workshops and exchange visits.
Up to 60 researchers participated in the workshop including seven academics from each university as well as postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. Highlights include talks by Prof Edward Sargent and Prof Paul Mulvaney as well as discussion sessions on the future of various advanced materials and technologies. It was apparent that there were many common and complementary research interests between groups and numerous potential collaborations were identified. We are planning further discussion sessions and are looking forward to exchange visits when that becomes possible.
